About me

Matthias Jax is a renowned expert in social networks, data protection, and digital literacy. His passion for digital media and his deep expertise have made him a leading figure in Europe’s IT, education, and digital policy landscape.

As the project lead of the EU initiative Saferinternet.at, Matthias is dedicated to empowering children, young people, and their caregivers to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. Through innovative educational programs and strategic communication, his team promotes digital awareness, resilience, and media literacy across Austria and Europe.

Beyond his national work, Matthias plays a key role on the steering committee of INSAFE, the European network driving safer internet initiatives, and serves on the Better Internet for Kids (BIK+) advisory board, contributing to the long-term implementation of the EU’s digital child protection strategy at the national level.

Since 2023, Matthias has also been a member of the EU BIK+ Child and Youth Consumer Protection Task Force, working to safeguard young audiences from manipulative online marketing practices and to foster a fairer, more transparent digital environment.

In addition to his policy and project work, Matthias is a lecturer and guest speaker at institutions such as the Virtual University College of Education, the University College of Teacher Education Salzburg, and the University of Vienna. His teaching focuses on digital transformation in education, preparing future educators to integrate technology meaningfully and ethically into their classrooms.
